Ocular Coherence Tomography
During every comprehensive eye exam, we perform an iWellness screening. It is similar to an ultrasound, but uses light waves instead of sound waves for imaging the retina. This allows the doctor to visualize the macula in detailed cross section to check for macular disorders and macular degeneration. It also screens for damage to the nerve caused by glaucoma.
The findings of this test, along with all the other components of the examination, enable to doctor to determine your level of risk for macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and other disease.
When indicated, she will order most extensive imaging to better analyze your condition and monitor over time. It also plays an important role in determining what medical treatments or referrals are necessary to protect your vision and your eye health.
